The Steelers announced the 2018 nominees to the team’s Hall of Honor on July 28 and they were:
Rocky Bleier – RB 1968-80 including a spell in the army.
Buddy Dial – WR 1959-63
Alan Faneca – G 1998-2007
Bill Nunn – sportswriter and scout for the Steelers 1967-2014. Was part of a team that drafted players to win six Super Bowls.
Art Rooney Jr. – Steelers personnel director from 1965-86 when they team won their first four Super Bowls.
I was surprised Myron Cope wasn’t included but understand the selections.
Rocky Bleier thought it appropriate he was being inducted fifty years after being drafted by the team. “Who would think that 50 years later I would be a part of one of the greatest dynasties and one of the greatest teams. To be honoured for my contributions is very special.”
Buddy Dial was on the receiving end of one of the Steelers earliest quarterback greats Bobby Layne. Dial held the team record for touchdown receptions in a season (1961) with twelve for seven years and scored three in one game against Dallas (1963).
Alan Faneca was a great offensive lineman for the Steelers and helped the team to win Super Bowl XL.
The induction will take place before the Ravens game on September 30th.
